You can also turn on good Horse Archer AI in the Camp -> POP Options, which I recommend. The Cavalry AI in PoP specifically targets your archers. You still have to be careful against cavalry focused armies such as Knight Orders though. Later, when you have a lot more money, enterprises, higher Surgery, etc, look into recruiting lots of Noble cavalry and turning them into Adventurers and eventually Hero Adventurers (I believe female variants are Maiden Cav -> Maiden Adventurer) as well as joining your favorite Knighthood Order, where you get free and powerful armor the higher in the ranks you climb (by doing quests for them).Īlso, I find that aside from a few units, the game is more balanced in that heavy cavalry doesn't steamroll everything and that archers are a lot stronger. For bow type archers, Ravenstern Rangers are the best common-type archer, but Sarleon Longbowmen are a good alternative and spammable. Their Crossbowmen and Legionnaires are easily spammable and are a good alternative to Fierdsvain Huscarls. One of the best kingdoms for this is the Baccus Empire, who are basically the equivalent of the Rhodoks. Easily trained and cost-efficient troops are great if you are taking lots of losses against stronger enemies. Recruitment: For what troops to recruit, I honestly feel you should go the route of quantity over quality, at least in the mid-game. Diamonds and Gold Bars are also similar, meanwhile you can just instantly sell any "Various Loot" boxes you get. Never sell Qualis Gems! They are for special uses with travelling merchants. It will notify you if there is loot to be found in those chests. If they ever tell you about any "opportunities", always accept. Those 2 chests will have loot spawn in them when you talk to people in taverns and pay 10 Denars to ask about rumors. Special Items: There is a chest in the ship on the docks of Valonbray, and a chest in the first left turn in Rane. I'm on my first playthrough of PoP as well, and after constantly looking through guides, the wiki, and other forum threads, I can give you a few tips on what helped me.
